With a view to promote agribusiness entrepreneurship and innovation in Nepal, Nepal Entrepreneurs’ Hub (NEHUB) successfully organized the Agribusiness BootCamp 2017. The one-of- its kind program encompassing a series of events, concluded in Kathmandu today with the announcement of the top agribusinesses.NEHUB utilized an innovative and multi-funneling approach to screen and shortlist applicants to feed them to the Agribusiness BootCamp 2017. A total of 641 applications (383 new ides/ startups and 258 existing businesses) from all walks of life and from across the country applied for the BootCamp. A pre-event “Spark Talk” was held on 31 March, 2017 to orient the shortlisted 65 new ideas/ startups and 46 existing businesses on the upcoming agriBusiness BootCamp 2017.
The 65 aspiring entrepreneurs/ startups participated in the first ever agriBusiness BootCamp- Startup Weekend event in Nepal from Friday 7 April to Sunday 9 April, 2017.
In this 54 hour event, a total of 33 ideas were pitched, out of which 10 ideas were selected and worked on, out of which top 5 ideas were selected. A focused event “Speed Dating” was held on 1 April, 2017, whereby 20 established businesses with the best agribusiness acumen were selected from a top pool after rigorous interview and evaluation. The five startups and 20 existing businesses joined the 7 day agriBusiness BootCamp held from 21-27 April, 2017.
The BootCamp is an intensive weeklong training / mentoring program which help selected entrepreneurs grow from existence to sustainability and scale as well as startups to transfer ideas from mind to market – with a plan for financial returns. During the week the participants gained concrete skills of evolving their business in agriculture with insight from industry experts addressing supply chain management, supplier development, value-addition, marketing and partnerships, etc.
On the last day of the BootCamp, the 25 finalists contested in front of the judges and the following top 10 teams presented in the Grand Finale:

Out of these top 10 teams, top 3 teams – 1st “Shree Kalika BM Agro Production” 2nd “Kanchanjunga Organic Orthodox Tea Industry” and 3rd “Quest for Progress” were awarded in the Grand Finale. In addition the top 20 teams will receive one-on- one mentoring sessions to help transform them from growth oriented agribusinesses to growth-ready agribusinesses all set to begin investing in and executing their innovative approaches. After intensive mentoring, the top 20 teams will be handed over to the Nepal AgriBusiness Innovation Centre (NABIC).
