Do you consider yourself to be an entrepreneur? If yes, what kind of entrepreneur are you? Are you a builder, or are you an innovator or an opportunist? In today’s world, there are various kinds of entrepreneurs. They have different backgrounds, different styles of working, different strengths and even different goals. All entrepreneurs, no matter how different they are showing some similar traits. Following are a few characteristics every entrepreneur should possess:

  • They are Curious: Entrepreneurs are curious beings. With so much of curiosity within them, they are always willing to learn more. It is their curiosity that channels their out-of-the-box thinking. Curiosity leads to questions and questions lead to answers. This provides an opportunity for them to solve problems they wouldn’t have known existed otherwise and also come up with new ideas. It was because of the curiosity of Benjamin Franklin, a great figure in the entrepreneurial history, that led him to create the lightning rods and bifocals.

  • Rule breakers: Richly endowed with traits like determination and creativity, entrepreneurs are also the ones who aren’t afraid to break the rules. They break away from the conventional ways in dealing with their businesses and their rule-breaking often creates a disruption in the market. For instance, the new technology platform in Nepal- Tootle– helps people reach their desired destination with just a click away on their smartphones. This app matches bikers with passengers and allows them to be dropped off or picked up at their preferable locations.
  • Passionate: For entrepreneurs, their main priority is their idea and their vision of it turning into a reality. When their mind is focused on something, they will do whatever it takes to achieve it. They don’t care about naysayers and anyone who doesn’t believe in them. They have faith in themselves and often times they turn out to be pretty successful. Famous and successful entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and J.K Rowling are where they are because of their passion and hard work.

  • Perseverant: Perseverance is an essential characteristic of an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are people who always get back up when they fall down. If at first, they don’t succeed, they keep on trying until they reach their goals. Entrepreneurs have a steady persistence in a course of action or a purpose especially in spite of difficulties.
  • Risk-taker: Ready to dive in a future full of uncertainty, entrepreneurs are great risk-takers. They live by the motto “Go big or go home”. While others prefer stability, entrepreneurs prefer risk-taking. To support their business, entrepreneurs put their careers, personal finances and even their mental health at stake. Risks don’t often pay off but when they do, they’re quite rewarding. Well, known billionaire Bill Gates took several risks when establishing his company Microsoft. He took huge risks like dropping out of college just so that he could turn his vision into reality.

All in all, it does not matter what kind of an entrepreneur you are or what kind of business you operate or the part of the world you reside in. What matters the most are these few impeccable traits that make an entrepreneur stand out from the rest of the crowd. So, are you an entrepreneur?
